Generic Top-Level Domains

The generic .com, .net and .org domain names continue to be the most popular domains on the Internet. Newer generic domains include .mobi, which is intended for mobile service providers. Generic domain names are the easiest and most effective way to reach global target groups.

Disputes related to generic domain names – such as .com, .net, .org and .info – are solved through a process known as the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP). Such disputes can be solved on various forums. In Europe, the most common procedure is the one offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Decisions are typically issued within a few months from filing the appeal.
