Fu-Chia is a partner in Berggren´s Tampere, Finland office and is a qualified patent attorney in Europe, China and Finland. She has a bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences and a master´s degree in law (LLM). Fu-Chia is fluent in both Mandarin and English and with her rare combination of qualifications and skills she is uniquely positioned to head Berggren´s China Desk. Fu-Chia speaks and writes frequently about Chinese and European IP law and has a great deal of insight in understanding key differences between the laws of these two important jurisdictions.
In addition, Fu-Chia offers comprehensive consultancy in intellectual property matters directed to the Chinese markets as well as the European market for Asian entities. She has experience managing patent matters over their entire life cycle, from the initial drafting of patent applications to the submission of analyses and arguments for prosecution and opposition procedures, particularly in the technical fields of chemistry and biotechnology. She also has experience enforcing or defending against IP rights in collaboration with litigation professionals in multiple jurisdictions, with a particular focus on Europe and China. In addition, she provides freedom to operate analyses, prepares 3rd party observations, and conducts patent searches for a variety of client needs.
Before joining Berggren, Fu-Chia worked as a patent engineer for an IP firm in Taiwan and as a translator of patent applications (English–Mandarin). Prior to that she worked as a research assistant in a biochemistry laboratory of an academic research center.
