Date and time: Wednesday, December 7 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. EET
Venue: Virtual event - join from anywhere!
Now that the planned start date of the Unified Patent Court has been officially announced as 1 April 2023 (not an April fools joke, we promise!), the UPC’s sunrise period is expected to start on 1 January 2023, at which point it will be possible to start opting granted European patents out of the Unified Patent Court’s jurisdiction and to start filing requests for Unitary Patents with the European Patent Office.
In this webinar, we will give an update on the expected timeline for the start of the new system and we will discuss how you should be preparing for it. We will discuss many of the practicalities of the new system and the transitional provisions that will come into effect in the next couple of months, such as how unitary patents can be obtained already during the sunrise period and how granted European patents can be opt-outed out of the UPC system.
The webinar is suitable for anyone who is working with Berggren on European patent matters, for example in-house IP managers and non-European patent attorneys, who are already familiar with the basics of the new system and who want to know more about the effect of the practical effects of the new system.
The expert in this webinar will be Michael Nielsen, UK & European Patent Attorney.
Michael is an experienced European and UK Patent Attorney, having personally handled hundreds of European patent applications in the course of his career, and is experienced in conducting oral proceedings in examination, opposition, and appeal cases at the European Patent Office. He regularly writes on the topics of the Unitary Patent, Unified Patent Court, and developments in European patent practice. He is a member of the Professional Education Committee of epi, the Institute of Professional Representatives before the EPO, which oversees continuing professional education and qualification of European Patent Attorneys, and a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys.
This webinar will be held in English. If you are interested in this topic in Finnish, we are hosting a Finnish-language webinar on December 8. Read more from here.
You can register for free simply by leaving your contact information. You will receive a personal link before the event. Even if you are not able to join the live session, please sign up anyway so you can receive a free recording afterward.
