Now that the start date of the new unitary patent & Unified Patent Court system is confirmed for 1 June 2023, it is essential that all patent owners and applicants understand the changes that the new system will bring and how these will affect the way you protect, assert and license patent rights in Europe.

This webinar will get you up to speed with the fundamentals of the new Unitary Patent system, the roadmap for the coming weeks and months, and the steps that patent holders and applicants should be taking to prepare for the start of the system.

The webinar will be presented by Michael Nielsen, UK & European Patent Attorney, European Patent Litigator, and co-ordinator of Berggren’s unitary patent & Unified Patent Court team. Michael has personally handled hundreds of European patent applications in the course of his 10+ year career, and is experienced in conducting oral proceedings in examination, opposition, and appeal cases at the European Patent Office. He regularly writes on the topics of the unitary patent, Unified Patent Court, and developments in European patent practice. He is a member of the Professional Education Committee of epi, the Institute of Professional Representatives before the EPO, which oversees continuing professional education and qualification of European Patent Attorneys, and a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys.

The last part of the presentation will be given by Mariella Massaro who will speak about the impact of the new system on license and collaborative agreements. Mariella is a Certified Licensing Professional and works on a variety of international IP and commercial transactions and projects. She has 15 years of prior experience as an IP attorney-at-law in Italy, assisting a variety of clients, including high-tech and software companies, iconic design and fashion houses, research institutions and start-ups.
