The cost simulator can be used to see how the choice of a unitary patent or “classic” national validation of a European patent affects the ongoing and lifetime costs of the patent.

The geographical scope of the unitary patent will change over the coming months and years as more countries join the system. As a result, the cost implications for patents granted later may be different to those shown in the simulator now.

The cost simulator provides a reasonably accurate estimate of the costs, but it is still based on a number of assumptions that may not be correct in every situation.
