Jukka Kantanen is a Partner, European Patent Attorney and UPC Representative at Berggren. He has worked in the IP field since 2004. Jukka helps clients identify commercially valuable inventions and assess how they should be protected. His work covers patent applications, advice relating to patent portfolios, novelty and freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement assessments, and opposition and appeal matters.
Jukka has particularly strong experience in ICT, wireless communications, software, artificial intelligence and quantum technology. He also has extensive experience in electronics, mechanical engineering, industrial equipment and energy technology. Jukka began his IP career as a patent engineer at Nokia Corporation in 2004 and has worked as a patent attorney since 2007. His in-house IP experience helps him understand clients’ product development, internal decision-making and the practical management of patent portfolios.
Jukka has worked with international patent portfolios and handled complex EPO opposition and appeal proceedings as well as assignments related to patent disputes. He has previously served as a tutor on the Basic Training in European Patent Law organised by the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) at the University of Strasbourg.
Jukka is the right person to contact when a company needs assistance in identifying and protecting inventions, assessing patenting options, developing its patent portfolio, evaluating risks arising from third-party patents, or handling opposition and appeal proceedings. His expertise is particularly strong in ICT, artificial intelligence and quantum technology.
