    The Finnish Market Court is a specialised court that handles disputes and administrative matters relating to industrial property rights and copyright, as well as matters concerning marketing supervision and unfair business practices.

    Specialisation in IPR matters

    The Market Court handles both disputes and administrative matters relating to, among other things, copyright, trademarks, designs, domain names, utility models and patents. The court also decides matters concerning unfair business practices and marketing supervision. Under certain conditions, the Market Court may also examine other civil matters in connection with disputes that fall within its jurisdiction. 

    In-depth expertise and predictable case law

    The composition of the Market Court may include, in addition to judges, up to two expert members where the nature of the matter so requires. The expertise of a specialised court improves the quality of decisions and reduces legal uncertainty. Established case law helps assess risks and anticipate the course of proceedings. 

    Effective legal protection and a simplified appeal process

    The Market Court may impose effective prohibitions and sanctions, such as prohibiting the use of an infringing trademark, design or marketing message. This provides companies with swift and effective protection against various types of infringement.

    Decisions of the Market Court are appealed directly to the Supreme Court, which can help limit the overall costs of the proceedings.
