Sakari Värilä is a Partner and European Patent Attorney at Berggren, working in the IPR field since 2002. He heads Berggren's international business.
Sakari helps technology-driven companies identify and protect their key innovations. He drafts and prosecutes patent applications, carries out freedom-to-operate, patentability and validity studies, and handles oppositions and other post-grant proceedings. He also develops clients' patent portfolios and IPR strategies and coordinates prosecution across jurisdictions. He translates complex technology into protection that supports business objectives and international growth and helps manage risks early.
Sakari has served as an outsourced IPR manager and patent engineer for several companies, which gives him insight into in-house priorities and decision-making. Before entering the IPR field, he worked in R&D at a global telecommunications company and as a developer at an industrial automation company. His sector experience includes communications, AI and software, signal processing, embedded systems, measurement and sensor technology, medtech and mechanical engineering.
